The club was founded in 1978 and played on lands owned by racehorse trainer Mr Michael Vance at Whitechurch Straffan.

The first committee consisted of:-
Iggy Cribbin – Chairman
Tommy Stanley – Secretary
John Blake – Treasurer
Mick Price – Team Manager
Also on the committee were Emmet Stagg, Alan Lawless and Tom Connolly.
The players included several sets of brothers Breen, Collins, Kane, Stanley, Kiernon Lawless and Travers.

In 1979 the club reached the Counties Cup semi-final but were beaten.
They decided to move to the Dublin section of the Leinster Junior League in 1981 and the change seemed to suit as the club won its first league title in 1981’82, the manager at the time was Pat McKenna and Tommy Stanley was the team captain.
The team was made up of :- Alan Donovan, Eamonn Kane, Chris Burke, Billy Farrell, Johonny Donovan, Kipper Stanley, John McAndrew, Billy McAndrew, David Mahony, Mick Behan , Joe Corrigan and Gerry Dalton.

In the 1982-83 season the club retained its title with Frank Kelly, Gerry Byrne and Eddy Tyrrell playing a major part.

The following season three in a row looked possible, but they could only manage the runners up spot, they were beaten by just one point.

The next season Straffan reached the final of the Charles R. Wynne Kildare Championship, but lost out to Suncroft on a score of 3-1.

A play off for runners – up was lost in 1989 and the club had to wait until 1996 for the next League Title. The team was managed by Tommy Stanley at the time and they won the title from Edenderry Town, Kipper Stanley was Team Captain and the team also included Ken Byrne, Damien McAuliffe, Andy and Philip Fox, Niall Molloy, Ed Tyrrell , Peter Stanley, Bobby Walsh and player – manager Tommy Stanley.
A club record of eight games without conceding a goal was set during this season.

The club switched to the Kildare and District Football League in 1998 with Matty Poynton as Charman and Kipper Stanley as Manager. They finished runners – up three seasons in a row and the Premier Cup in 2001, beating Connell Rovers 2-0 in the final.

In 2004 the second team were beaten in a play-off for the League Title by B.B.C. Utd., the score was 2-1 after extra – time.

In 2005 Straffans youth team clinched the Youth Cup for the first time in the clubs history and the 1st team brought home the Div 3/4 Shield.

In 2006 Straffan finished runners up in Division 3 and were promoted to Division 2 with Clane.

In 2007 Straffan were runners up in the Division 1/2 Shield.

In 2008 Straffan were runners up in Division 2 and runners up in the Division 2 Cup losing 1-0.

Alice Stanley and Pat McKenna have given tremendous support to the club as they have both served over 20 years as committee members.
